Service opportunities for everyone!

local, national, global

From organizing within our church community, to supporting outside organizations that serve others, CPC is actively working to serve God and spread Christ's love.

Appalachian Service Project (ASP)

Every summer, CPC sends intergenerational teams to ASP sites in rural Appalachia where they spend one week repairing residents’ homes, interacting with those living in the area, and growing in their understanding of God’s service to others. Applications for spots on the CPC team are generally available in February for adults and youth who have completed 8th grade.

Guatemala

In Guatemala, CPC partners with Monte Sinai Iglesia Presbyterian in the highland town of Nimasac. We work with the indigenous people of Guatemala, the Maya, focusing on education and economic development through our partnership with Esperanza de Guatemala, a 501(c)3 non-profit.
Esperanza has its own Facebook page: Esperanza Guatemala Missions.

Community Organizations

Through member involvement and direct financial support, CPC supports numerous local organizations, including:
Dorcas Ministries (http://www.dorcas-cary.org/)
Loaves & Fishes (https://lafchildren.org/)
Meals on Wheels (http://www.wakemow.org/)
The Carying Place
(http://www.thecaryingplace.org/)
Wheels 4 Hope (http://wheels4hope.org/)

Social Justice

The Social Justice Ministry at CPC is dedicated to respectful communication forums that raise awareness of and promote dialogue around issues of social justice. All CPCers are welcome to join our meetings, and our events are open to the church and broader communities.

Be the Hands!

Be the Hands! is a week full of service opportunities partnering with non-profit agencies within the community to provide support to their ministries. Opportunities in the past have included helping with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, assembling Presbyterian Disaster Clean-up Kits, doing yard work for church members, and many others.
Since the project began in November 2017, hundreds of volunteers have joined in this intergenerational service project that culminates with dinner and fellowship. Find out more on our Be the Hands page.

Presbyterian Coffee Project

CPC proudly serves and sells Equal Exchange coffee through the Presbyterian Coffee Project. “Fairly traded” coffee, tea, chocolate, and olive oil are available for sale near the Fellowship Hall on All Together Sundays (typically the last Sunday of each month). Churches can now reach out to our neighbors overseas not only with the prayers and offerings we give, but with the goods and services we purchase. Buying fairly traded products through the Presbyterian Coffee Project ensures that more of the money we spend on coffee reaches the hardworking farmers who actually grow it.
All proceeds support CPC’s “Esperanza” mission work in Guatemala.

Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger is driven by the vision of a world without hunger. Its mission is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable and creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. At CPC, inter-generational teams meet in a fun atmosphere at the church to pack 10,000 meals for school lunches around the world (including Guatemala and Haiti) at certain scheduled times during the year. The meals provide nutrition and encourage school attendance.
Rise Against Hunger is headquartered in Raleigh.

Scouting

CPC has been a long-time supporter of scouting programs. The first Boy Scout program in Cary was chartered by CPC. Our scouting program draws members from CPC and the local community.
For information about Cub Scout Pack 232 (1st - 5th grades), and Girl Scout troops that meet at CPC, contact the church office.

Haiti

CPC provides financial assistance to Hearts with Haiti, an organization that fosters a brighter future for young people in Haiti through the homes of the St. Joseph family. For more information contact office@heartswithhaiti.org

Madagascar Missionaries

CPC currently supports Presbyterian missionaries, Dan and Elizabeth Turk, in Madagascar. Dan Turk works on reforestation and other environmental projects in Madagascar. Elizabeth is a nurse and works on a variety of public health projects. Find out more about the Turks and their work here.

special offerings

Cary Presbyterian participates in TWO of the four churchwide Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) that are a collective witness to Jesus Christ’s love for the whole church: One Great Hour of Sharing during Lent/Easter and the Christmas Joy Offering. These play an important role in defining what it means to be a connectional church. Over the years these offerings have provided ways for individuals and congregations to join each other and partner with other Christians in responding to a variety of concerns.
