The seventh in Wendell Berry's Port William series follows the life of its narrator, Jayber Crow, a barber in the fictional town of Port William, KY, from 1932 through the middle of the 20th century. The book is a reflective, elegiac story about community, love, loss, and the tension between tradition and modernization, as Jayber observes and participates in the life of his town while grappling with his own unrequited love and search for meaning.
